Anne Laker is a nonprofit professional with 33 years experience in communications, programming, and administration at various Indianapolis cultural organizations as well as the Indiana Forest Alliance, where she developed campaigns to engage Hoosiers in forest advocacy and co-wrote a book about Indiana forests published by IU Press.
Today, Anne is principal at Laker Verbal, LLC where she writes grants for a variety of non-profits, consults on development strategy, and provides writing/editing services. Since 2019, she’s raised a total of $6M for 15 different clients. Recently she consulted on the Solar for All initiative, helping to develop a framework for resident voice in the deployment of solar energy.
Her background as a freelance writer includes environmental coverage for NUVO Newsweekly in the 90s/2000s, and a series of columns in 2021 for Howey Politics Indiana about environmental policy at the statehouse. Anne served as an HEC board member from 2003-2009, where she procured a $60K grant related to environmental education. She’s also served as a board member for Citizens Climate Lobby, where she took part in multiple visits to Capitol Hill.
Anne has a B.A. in Humanities from Mundelein College Chicago and an M.A. in English from IU Indianapolis. She is a published poet, lifelong diarist, primitive camper, and host of a podcast on contemporary film called Flick Fix.
