Authored by Sen. Eric Koch (R-Bedford) with Sen. Ed Charbonneau (R- Valparaiso) and Sen. Andrea Hunley (D- Indianapolis) (and 24 co-authors and 4 sponsors), SB 5 will make it easier and less expensive for drinking water utilities to replace lead service lines. Replacing the lines is important for reducing the risk of lead getting into drinking water.

In the Senate Utilities Committee, language from HB 1117 was amended into this bill.

Update (as of 2/19):

SB 5 has passed the House Utilities Committee! It has been reassigned to the House Ways & Means Committee, where it will be heard on Wednesday, 2/21.
