As a follow up to last week’s town hall about NIPSCO’s coal ash closure plan for their Michigan City plant, please join us for a Virtual Coal Ash Q&A next Thursday, Apr. 30th from noon-2 PM CST (1-3 EST). This event will be hosted by Dr. Indra Frank, Environmental Health & Water Policy Director for Hoosier Environmental Council (HEC), and feature guests Cathi Murray, Town of Pines resident, and Christina Zacny, former Wheatfield resident who now resides in Michigan City. During the Q&A, they will discuss the history NIPSCO’s coal ash contamination in the Town of Pines as well as what the impacts of NIPSCO’s current closure plan may have on Wheatfield, where the coal ash will be trucked to and landfilled at their Schahfer plant.
This event is sponsored in collaboration with the Hoosier Environmental Council, Earthjustice, the LaPorte County NAACP and the Just Transition NWI Coalition.
