When I first talked with Mark, the General Manager at Crown Moving and Storage, he nicknamed our project the Shoe Shuffle. I had contacted Wheaton World Wide Moving about helping us move 1,300 pairs of shoes from three locations in the Indianapolis area to Batesville. For us, it seemed like an overwhelming task. As the local agent for Wheaton, Mark and Crown didn’t even hesitate!

Along with Guys and Gals Quarters, Sundance SalonSpa, Sage a salon, and Aqua Serene Wellness, HEC had been collecting shoes as part of our Aveda Earth Month Shoe Drive since the beginning of April. The shoes would go to micro-entrepreneurs in developing countries and HEC would receive a donation based on the amount of shoes we collected. We just needed to get them in one place for Funds2Orgs, the organizer of our fundraiser, to pick up.

Chris, our Crown Wheaton driver, was so helpful! From Zionsville, to downtown, to the near south side, to Batesville, he lifted, carried, slung, carted, counted and drove shoes, always with a smile on his face.

Chris even played the role of photographer.

Headed south to Sage, a salon.

Crown/Wheaton hauled 52 bags of shoes to Batesville.

And Chris unloaded them into the GGQ shed…

…where they’ll wait for pick-up from Funds2Orgs.

As I write this, we have 91 bags — 2,275 pairs — of shoes awaiting pick-up at Guys and Gals Quarters in Batesville. Our goal is 100 bags — 2,500 pairs. If you live in the Batesville area and have gently-used shoes to donate, please consider dropping them off at the salon, 22 Saratoga Drive, before the end of June. We’re SO close and if we reach our goal, HEC will receive the maximum donation possible!

THANK YOU Crown Moving and Storage, Wheaton World Wide Moving, Mark and Chris for helping to make our fundraiser a success! I truly mean it when I say we couldn’t have done it without you. Your generosity helps HEC do more to help make Indiana a healthier, better place to live and do business.
