HEC launches ‘Green Energy NOW!’ video contest
Innovative competition encourages Hoosiers to make their voice heard on environmental issues
Indianapolis – With a robust debate about historic energy and global warming legislation underway in Washington, the Hoosier Environmental Council (HEC) is encouraging Hoosiers to make their voices heard on their support for clean, green energy through an innovative video contest.
“Green Energy NOW!” provides Hoosiers with the opportunity to share how they are fighting the effects of climate change in their daily lives and why they are advocating for federal green energy and climate legislation in fun, creative and non-traditional ways. Participants are encouraged – in three minutes or less – to tell their story, whether it’s through small changes like walking instead of driving, or buying food locally, or through personal or professional advocacy on the local, state or national levels.
“In our fast-paced world where people are able to capture videos on their cameras, cell phones and laptops, this is a new way for Hoosiers to document and share their support for green energy and take this discussion to the next level,” said Jesse Kharbanda, HEC executive director. “With the landmark climate bill – the American Clean Energy and Security Act – moving forward in Washington, now is the time to shine a spotlight on the efforts Hoosiers put forth every day to positively impact our environment.”
Contestants can make a video with a video-camera, webcam, cell phone, or an image slideshow with music/voiceover. Cash prizes, ranging from $200 – $500 and underwritten by HEC supporters, will be awarded for the four videos that are the funniest, most creatively produced, best-researched, and overall favorite. Participants must be an Indiana resident to receive a prize, but anyone can submit videos. All participants will receive a free organic HEC t-shirt and decal.
The Green Energy NOW! contest ends August 24. The winning videos will be featured on the HEC web site. Videos can be uploaded to, where all YouTube rules apply. Videos that are incendiary, slanderous, disrespectful or off-topic will not be accepted.
