Our Position

Indiana must make replacing dirty coal-fired electric plants with conservation, energy efficiency, distributed generation and commercial-scale renewable energy a top priority, as is occurring at a fast clip in Illinois and Ohio, our neighboring states. Not only is it a matter of health, but also of money. There’s overwhelming evidence that diversifying the electric energy mix would result in a much stronger economy and a much cleaner environment for Indiana. And by investing in clean energy, we create good-paying green jobs for the manufacture and deployment of that energy. HEC will continue to take a leading role in working with our business, labor, consumer and environmental partners to spur significant action, including: The Green Jobs Development Act (RES), which would require utility companies to generate a growing portion of their electricity from renewable energy resources. Expanded net metering – allowing more electric customers to receive credit for renewable electricity generated at their homes and businesses.
