Don`t forget: Your input is needed on Central Indiana’s Transportation Initiative, IndyConnect! Help bring a modern, 21st century transportation system to metropolitan Indianapolis. Light rail and improved bus service are part of the recommended transportation plan but we need your voice to weigh in.
Please attend one of the April public meetings or comment on-line– express your support for improved, expanded and environmentally-friendly public transit in central Indiana.
Speak Out
Ask the Governor to get Indiana moving on high speed passenger trains.
Learn about the Midwest Regional Rail System plan for high speed passenger trains in the Midwest. Indiana lags behind our neighboring Midwest states in expanding passenger rail and introducing new high speed trains. Because these states, including Illinois, Michigan and Wisconsin, have invested state funds to develop their high speed rail corridors, they are much more likely to receive federal rail grants. Indiana has yet to conduct preliminary studies for our sections of the Chicago to Cleveland and Chicago to Cincinnati corridors.
You can help by writing to Governor Daniels and urge him to direct INDOT to begin the environmental and preliminary engineering studies now, so that Indiana will be in a position to benefit from increased federal investment in high speed rail. $8 billion in federal grants have already been handed out for projects around the U.S., but Indiana received only $71 million to upgrade tracks that will serve the Chicago to Detroit high speed rail route. Congress is expected to approve more federal funds for passenger rail in the upcoming reauthorization of the federal transportation bill.
