Speak Out
Please take our survey and help shape the future of HEC.
Spread the word about the Hoosier Environmental Council and our mission. Make us one of your friends on Facebook. Link to us from your website. The technology’s there. So why not use it? And by spreading the news via the web, you’ll prevent a tree from becoming a brochure. Never stop thinking green!
Here’s more information that may help:
Participate in the political process
•Contact your legislator via e-mail
•Become familiar with your state and national government representatives
•House District Map
•Senate District Map
•Learn what bills are most recently being considered
Learn about the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM)’s various public participation processes, from commenting on permits and rules, to reporting pollution and challenging polluters.
Third House Meetings (or Legislative Breakfasts) are a good opportunity to meet your legislator in your home district, rather than traveling to the state house. Find upcoming Third House Meetings in your district on our calendar of events.
When writing your legislator, be sure to reference the bill number and explain how the legislation affects you personally.
Here is a sample letter from Health by Design to encourage more funding for public transportation.
When e-mailing, be sure you say exactly what you want in the subject line. For example, if you’re writing to urge your state senator to support Senate Bill 283, your subject should read “Please support Senate Bill 283.”
Indiana`s University Community: Indiana Campus Sustainability Alliance Online
HEC’s social networking site is intended to bring together the hearts and minds of Indiana’s many universities. This coalition of students, staff, and faculty, is known as the Indiana Campus Sustainability Alliance. The ICSA provides an avenue for Hoosier universities to both coordinate campus sustainability efforts and present themselves as a unified voice for catalyzing policy change in environmental issues.
And if you have something to tell us, shout it out. Remember, we have the resources to make your voice heard. We’re not shy. So why should you be? Contact us today.
