EarthMonthHeader

April was jam-packed with activities that HEC was involved in. So many fun stories to share, so many wonderful people met, and so many connections made across the state! Read on for a reflection of the places we’ve been and the experiences we’ve had as we shared our Earth Month with amazing environmental crusaders from all over Indiana!

EVENTS

Catwalk for Clean Waterphoto 8

This year’s Catwalk was like none before; more a party than a runway show. And it was perfection. Beautiful models, eco-chic fashion, hair, and make-up, great music, and a wonderful partnership with numerous Aveda salons. The entire HEC staff was in attendance for this event, as were approximately 300 of our fellow Hoosiers!

You can read more about Catwalk here or view a slideshow of pictures by the IndyStar here.

Earth Day Indiana

Despite occasional bursts of torrential rain, Earth Day Indiana was a fantastic event. Tents full of vendors, organizations, and members of the community were buzzing with activity throughout the day and brought together people from all over the state. During our time there, we were able to engage with many fellow environmentally-minded people and introduce them to the work we do for the health, safety, and future of all Hoosiers.

EarthFest

This all-day event kicked off with a bike ride downtown and concluded at Fort Wayne Outfitters with a band and food trucks. In addition, there was yoga and kayaking! Lots of fun activities and fellowship for the planet.

Earth Day Community Celebration

Sunday was a beautiful day to celebrate the planet, with sunshine, live music, food, and photo 4fellowship. Dozens of organizations, vendors, and visitors filled the parking lot and lawns surrounding the Jewish Community Center. There were numerous activities, from stick sculptures to making flowers from recycled phone books to a drum circle. It was wonderful to watch children enjoy learning about their impact on the environment while also having fun and being creative in sustainable ways.

If you are interested in getting involved with our work in the community, through tabling events like these, please contact our Senior Outreach Associate, Amanda Shepherd, to learn more about our Environmental Advocate volunteer program.
