WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — A national environmental group has targeted Purdue University for its plan to expand coal-generated power.

The student coalition of the Sierra Club is organizing campus and community members to oppose a new coal-powered boiler at the Wade Power Plant and push Purdue instead to consider renewable energy options.

Sierra Club officials claim that Purdue is the only U.S. university currently planning to increase coal power, while other schools are pledging to cut back.
